How to open SQL Server Management Studio from the Run dialog box?

Billy Bob comes back from vacation from the Cayman Islands and notices that Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 is missing from the “All Programs” menu. Apparently, the System Administrators had made some changes to the operating system and decided to hide SQL Server from the menu. Billy Bob is very sure that SQL Server Management Studio is installed on this host for the instance of SQL Server he is trying to access. How can you help Billy Bob open SQL Server Management Studio? This is the only instance for this special department and no outside servers can access this instance due to security policies.

Since Billy Bob is very sure that SQL Server Management Studio is installed on the host, you have asked Billy Bob to try to run the command “SSMS” in the run dialog box to open SQL Server Management Studio. Problem solved.

Since there is also an instance of SQL Server 2005 in another special department, you have shared with Billy Bob that he can run “SQLWB” in the run dialog box to open SQL Server Management Studio for SQL Server 2005 if it is installed on the host.
